PROJECT – THE DEMOLITION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF SEVEN (7) JETTIES AND TWO (2) SLIP WAYS AT NNS BEECROFT
CLIENT – NIGERIAN NAVY
LOCATION – NNS BEECROFT JETTY, APAPA, LAGOS
COST – CONFIDENTIAL
ROLE – PROJECT MANAGER & TECHNICAL CONSULTANT
DATE – FEB 2017 – JULY 2020
STATUS – COMPLETED

This project refers to the sequential demolition of five (5) existing jetty structures and two (2) slip ways belonging to the Nigerian Navy for subsequent reconstruction of the same with an addition of two (2) new jetties, within the same vicinity. Project execution work is undertaken in prescribed stages that align with the convenience of the Nigerian Navy. The project is located within a naval facility and as such, it was very difficult to plan in the same manner as would have been the case with other projects.

By adopting a staged approach, the possibility of disrupting the operations of the Nigerian Navy is then minimized and hopefully mitigated. The old concrete piers at the berthing area are cut from a height above water and lifted to a shore receptacle for evacuation from the site to a designated disposal location, while the foundation piles are then uprooted with pneumatic jacks installed on barges and lifted out of the water to the same shore receptacle for onward vacuation to a designated disposal point.

At the end of it all, ample space is created for the reconstruction and new construction in accordance with the intended completion plan. The contractor handling this project is Messrs; China Civil Engineering & Construction Company Limited.
